Annie A Uttley (1870-1956)
in the 1890s in DoonBirth
Annie Agnes Uttley was born on September 11, 1870. She was the first daughter after three sons of seven children born to Samuel Uttley and Mary Baxter Taylor. The Woolwich Township Assessments for 1870 place Samuel in Elmira but by the spring of 1871 the family was in Listowel so she may have been born in Woolwich Twp, Waterloo County or in Perth County.
The 1881 census from Listowel lists Agness Ann, age 10. By 1891 she is known as Annie and living with her family in Doon. She went by the name "Annie" for the rest of her life.
At the death of her father Samuel in September 1921, Annie and her sister Edith were living at home with their father in Elmira.
The Vernon Directory tells us that Annie takes the profession of a nurse. In 1925 she is living near downtown Kitchener at 9 Alma Street; 1930 at 42 Cedar South, apartment 4 which is just a couple of blocks east; 1935 at 15 Wilton Ave; 1936-1938 she is a householder at 138 Ontario Street South, apartment 2, sharing with her sister Edith; 1939 the sisters were at 21 Courtland Ave West with Edith as the householder; and 1940 they moved to 3 Heins Ave with Edith as householder.

- The date of birth agrees with the month listed in the 1871 census.
- Samuel and his family must have still been in Elmira in the early fall of 1870.
